Another story into the box
As a dreamer, I’ve always looked forward to new adventures, challenges, cultures, and languages. But I never thought destiny would lead me to Dubai. I found myself pondering just two days ago, “Why am I here in Dubai?” Perhaps the seeds of this journey were sown back in 2018 when my econometrics teacher showed us a graph depicting the best economies in the coming years, and one of them was EAU. At the time, I had no inkling that I would end up here.
During 2023, I had one of the most remarkable experiences of my life, which I’ll share in another blog post. As the year began, I encountered circumstances that motivated me to seek new job opportunities. I applied for numerous positions in China, but none bore fruit. That’s when I reached out to my friend Carlos Riofrio, whom I had met in Beijing in 2016. While we only communicated twice a year, I confided in him about my situation and asked if he knew of any job openings in Abu Dhabi or any state in the UAE.
Our conversation, spanning two hours, was both meaningful and enlightening. It was during this chat that Carlos recalled Mr. Mithun, my now-boss, was searching for someone fluent in Spanish and experiences in business development field. Carlos vouched for me with all his heart and urged me to give it my best shot. Two months after the interview, I received the offer letter. It’s been four days since I arrived in Dubai, and it still feels surreal.
I can only emphasize that anyone can achieve anything if they are willing to make a commitment to themselves and embrace new challenges. Don’t wait for adversity or the risk of leaving behind a stable situation to prompt change. Plan your future without neglecting the present, cherish the best memories of the past, and understand your roots and the efforts you’re making for a brighter future.
Sometimes, we have to step out of our comfort zones or leave places that no longer welcome us. Embrace the circumstances and move forward to create a new chapter in your life. Remember, your box of experiences is vast, and the more you fill it with stories, the richer your life becomes. Respect the process and those who consistently support you on your journey.
